If you are already running but do not feel like you are progressing, constantly jumping between plans or simply do not know whether your training is moving you forward, Base to Best gives those months a purpose.
It is also ideal if you are targeting a spring marathon. We will use your March half to build your fitness, speed, strength and durability before moving into the final part of marathon preparation.
BASE
We start by getting your training structure right, building consistency and establishing the right volume for you.
BUILD
Progressively build your aerobic fitness, strength and training capacity without rushing into race-specific work too early.
PROGRESS
Training becomes more specific to your goal as we progress your threshold, long runs and key sessions.
BENCHMARK
The team comes together for a benchmark race so we can see how far you have progressed.
BEST
BEST – Run your best half marathon at Cambridge, Bath or your chosen race, backed by 20 weeks of structured training.
SPRING MARATHON?
If your half is part of a bigger goal, we carry the fitness you have built into the final stages of marathon prep.
This Isn't A Downloaded Training Plan
Your programme is built around your current fitness, goal, training history, available days and life outside running. Liam reviews your training throughout the 20 weeks and adapts it as you progress.

Every Base to Best athlete is entered into a separate programme draw before race day.
Proof
Last year 11 Run Stark runners raced Cambridge Half Marathon. Every single one ran a PB. This year we are going bigger.
Join Base to Best“My training had much more purpose and I could see the progress building throughout the programme. It all came together on race day when I ran my fastest ever 10K.”
Chris Whitehead
“The biggest difference was having a clear plan and a target to work towards each week. I finished with nearly a four-minute PB and my first sub-45.”
Jack Ephgrave
“Do it. Liam tailors the programme to your commitments and schedule, gives regular feedback, and the camaraderie between the other Run Stark athletes is a great support.”
April Wilson
Exclusive programme draw
Every Base to Best athlete will automatically be entered into our exclusive programme draw to win a brand-new pair of supershoes before race day. This is a benefit for everyone taking part in Base to Best. It is separate from the Cambridge giveaway, although the giveaway winner will also be entered into the supershoe draw because they become a Base to Best athlete.
